Street Lament

Everywhere is her,
The endless smoked-grey streets,
The spewing cars, the empty bus stops,
The broken-down cinema, the hissing trams,
The crowded square, the new trendy bars
That spill out into the fountains,
On rolling thuds of drum and bass,
Out into forever,
And I am crying now,
Crying for the girl I never had,
Everywhere is her,
The starving busker and his dog,
The fat mayor and his limousines,
Couples kissing on backless benches,
The boy who waits by the left stone lion,
For a girl who will never show,
Everywhere is her,
She has taken
Everything from me.
