Michael Davis Biography

I live in Urbandale, Iowa, a suburb of Des Moines. I have a wonderful wife and a 4-year-old boy who is the light of my life. I have many interests which include reading, writing, watching movies, listening to old-time radio shows and NPR, playing interactive fiction computer games, playing chess, and listening to new age music. George Winston is one of my favorite music artists; I love Lovecraftian fiction. Astronomy fascinates me. I live in my dream home overlooking a small lake. I am self-employed. Wu Wei is a philosophy I live my life by. What I am MOST interested in is magic. By that, I mean the magic in a story, or a line of poetry; the magic of snow falling outside my window while I read a favorite book. The magic of a thunderstorm or a soft slow rain on an autumn day.)

The Town Of Autumn

Into the town of Autumn
I went one fateful day;
The afternoon was cold and bright
The evening wet and gray.

Down the road I slowly wandered
Through the soft October rain
And passed a child who stared at me
With eyes so old and full of pain.

I saw an angel at the Inn
Warming by the fire;
A devil sat and talked with him
Of what did they conspire?

Inside the Pub I sat alone
I watched a stranger drinking gin
Another time I knew him well
Another life we’d meet again.

Into the graveyard mist I walked
In the dark I struck a flame
Before me was a tombstone
And on it was my name…

The cemetery leaves rustled, whispered
Secrets, and forgotten dreams…
In the town of Autumn
Nothing’s as it seems.
