Michael Shepherd is the Gandalf of this site, who reads and debates on the forum with wisdom, wit and warmth. He is a master wordsmith with a lifetime of experience. His poetry is interesting and recognizable and often beautiful. He has charm, style and irreverence and an overwhelming spirit of love and acceptance. Michael Shepherd is my hero and I salute him.

My nickname for this beloved friend is Grandfather Wisdom, GW for short. Michael is truly a man among men, with a deep technical knowledge of poetry, and with the heart to go along with that wisdom, and a wicked sense of humor.
Knowledge, heart, humor - what more could a person ask for in a writer? Nothing but a man like Mike! !

When the Australia writer C J Dennis wrote 'The Sentimental Bloke' in the colloquial language of the 1930's, an expression used I dips me lid meant, I doff my cap/hat to someone I hugely respect. Michael Shepherd, I dips me lid.

Michael is the best of combinations - one found few and far between. A first class poet; someone who provokes thought (even when it is not wanted): and the most decent, humanly-minded, wordsmith of an individual; and on that note, 'individual' he is. Unique. I adore this man. You will too.
