Mike Blotzer Poems

That familiar sense of fear and hope
Rises up inside her throat
Like the Phoenix in Stravinsky's soul
And like this mythic bird of flame
...

Where did I go wrong? Am I that far off?
Is there a sign, round telling all who see it
To treat me like I'm some jerk off?
When did integrity become so rare? And why do I still even care?
...

A glimpse beyond the walls, I see a life of which will never be
But oh, how high a man can dream? !
To heights unmatched and seldom seen
...

She swears a smile can hide away, the doubt she faces everyday
And to the masses, It's a job well done;
But I see through the misdirection
...

Even in the brightest flame, there is a touch of blue
So if you kill off all my demons, you might kill my angels too

So take me as I am; a stubborn fool - perfectly flawed
...

Who am I? A question asked a thousand times
Silence; an eerie fog
The only goddamned response
...

The Compass Has A New True North

That familiar sense of fear and hope
Rises up inside her throat
Like the Phoenix in Stravinsky's soul
And like this mythic bird of flame
What once was now doth not remain
And in her wake: Her youth now lay

For she hath no need to walk around;
Even if there are, as you know, many cracks on the ground
To come upon this paved boulevard.

She carries none of her well earned doubts;
NAY!
She relieves her back from her cumbersome baggage,
And in my eyes she stares with passion,
And in my arms she feels like magic-
With one smile-now I'M who's damaged!

But she mends me
Like a Taylor (sic) mends a suit.

Once, she was so frightened, And I was so bold...
But now I look to her, when I need look toward Home.
