Stay
and be my love.
Together we can fly over rainbows
and dwell in the heavens above.
...

Met jou oënskynlike onskuld
mok jy verantwoordelikheid
en buig en breuk jy die lyn
tussen reg en verkeerd.
...

Met jou skurwe hakke,
Onversorgd, wangevoed en kaal
Skuil jy in die skadus
Wyl die lewe chaoties om jou maal.
...

Giggels en gille
Giere en grille
Boyfriends en breakups
En al julle dinge
...

Ek staar na reëndruppels
wat val en breek op die grond
en wegsink tussen die klippe
oral om my rond
...

“Can you feel me, I’m there
My spirit’s all around
My fingers running through your hair
My feet are nowhere near the ground”
...

Ek’s siek en sat vir voorgee
Vir ja sê wanneer ek wil sê nee
Om te sê dat ek werklik gelukkig is
Dat daar niks is wat ek uit my lewe mis.
...

Deur klein ovaal venstertjies
sit ek en staar na stadsliggies
wat ek saam met my hart
ver agter my laat.

A Sheltered Life

When I was a teenager living at home
I rebelled against restriction of freedom
Church and cultural had written in stone.
But my parents were determined
I shouldn’t do things that was hip and rife.
It made me so mad
having to live a sheltered life!

As time moved on, so did I:
I left school, got pregnant, married young;
The fire inside me slowly started to die.
Never having time for anything else
than working, nursing and being a wife.
It made me so sad
that I was still living a sheltered life!

But Time has been my tutor and it has taught me well
It has shown me life from different angles
And finally I am able to tell
That freedom is better to have in small doses;
too much could cut you like a knife.
I am so glad
that I have lived a sheltered life.
