LOVE (Christmas 2015)

Its such a thing as anyone might find
as much in stable stall as Herod's hall
either or
and equally
unexpected


drawing simple shepherds
from guarding what seemed most dear,
a triptych of royalty
to take silk roads
from Samarkand lands,
and close to hand,
an Innkeeper
innocent and unawares
shuffling to unsought fame
curious from comfortable fire


and heaven knows
so great a cache it was
no seraphim
or cherubim's
flame of Eden's sword
could better guard
an unprotected God
of straw and laid
in poor cradle frame
than here
a humble carpenter
and there
a shy maid.
