017: Perception Poem by Colin Johnston

017: Perception

Rating: 5.0

My body’s ugly, she says,
Silently demanding approval
A wrinkle here, a wrinkle there
A stomach far beyond compare,
Why can't I make her see,
Just how much she means to me...

Her smiling face, her winning ways,
The care she takes of me each day
The meals she cooks, the way she looks,
Why can't I make her see,
just how much she means to me…

'' My Body’s perfect'', she says,
Not requiring any approval...
Tanned and toned, a lovely sight
That hour-glass shape that’s deemed just right
No beer-gut or wrinkles here
All My skin is taut and clear,
Why can’t I make her see,
just how mean she is to me...

I still love her,
Does she love me?
Of course she does,
Don't you agree
it's very, very plain to see
But then again, it comes to me,
Why can’t I make her see,
just how mean she is to me…

An interesting twist of the situation. How real in reflecting reality. It seems like a good self image is the foundation of a loving relationship and that it takes two. The question is how do they affect each other? As you point out nothing can be assumed.

life is all about perceptions Colin Every woman is beautiful when she knows she is loved just as every man is handsome to his lover

This is really very sweet. A person is always beautiful when seen through the eyes of love. It's a beauty, though, that's hard to explain or specify, I think. It's not that they have eyes of a certain color, that they're a certain shape or height, or what have you... it is simply that they are they that makes them beautiful and beautiful they are in the most extraordinary way. And that, in and of itself, is beautiful. A heartwarming piece, really. Perception, indeed, colors everything. Christine
