2 We Danced Poem by Bill Smith

2 We Danced

We danced
The fire in your steps burning away the sadness in your heart
Your hair swirling a fibre optic display
I was as happy as I can ever remember being
I pulled you close, you danced away
Laughter fell from our eyes
The band played as we floated on stupid happiness
I never loved you more than when you were crazy dancing
Where you thought I was laughing at you
not realising that your happiness
was my happiness
My laughter a show of affection that passed you by
I wished the dancing would last forever
Never had I felt so close to someone
not even when making love
as I felt in those moments
On that one night when
we danced
on that one night before
you danced on and out of my life
