21 Wishes Poem by Daniel Thomason

21 Wishes

My first wish a sail,
To drift us away,
Second no land,
So the waters we'd stay,
Third, the stars brighter,
Burning the sky,
Fourth, no more clear,
But an everlasting night,
My fifth a dozen roses,
Sixth, a dozen more,
Seventh, a song from my heart,
That will play forever more,
My eighth wish a dress,
To quilt you so fond,
Ninth, a ballroom floor,
So we may dance all night long,
My tenth wish a sea,
That is always so calm,
Eleventh a breeze,
So your hair may fly on,
Twelfth for a spell,
That would allow us to awaken,
Our eyes would not close,
But to meet and play patient,
Thirteenth for doves,
To circle our sails
Fourteenth for comets,
That will fall to prevail,
Fifteenth for no hunger,
Sixteenth for no pain,
Seventeenth for no worry,
Just a love that we'd gain,
Eighteenth for one feeling,
Happiness so grand,
Nineteenth for no pride,
That has ruined all man,
Twentieth for no memory,
For this is all that I need,
And the twenty-first wish,
The twenty-first breath,
That this may not be a dream.
