The poem '23feb8 The Day After: If I Am 2 Die' is about the Christchurch New Zealand earthquake of the 22 February 2011 and the aftershocks etc. People were trapped in the ruins of a few high profile buildings afterwards. Some were rescued, others died before help arrived. A google search of the (Christchurch New Zealand earthquake of the 22 February 2011) has videos on line and newspaper articles on the quake itself. The central business district, several city blocks was completely destroyed and is still off limits due to unsafe structures and rebuilding. This was my previous home city where I completed my degree and the office building where I had worked was among buildings which had to be abandoned. In such a small city it was impossible not to know some of the victims who died. A far larger earthquake on the Great Alpine Fault is still overdue. It is expected to cut off small towns and cities by road for at least 6 months to a year before roads can be repaired. People have stock piled food and water in preparation.
