#333 Plans Didn’t Go As Planned

I blinked and suddenly it was gone;
Her life became a memory.
Dusk came seconds after dawn,
In a flash a seed became a tree.
That day has vanished and withdrawn,
A stump’s where that tree used to be.

She slipped right through my fingers,
Right through my careless hand.
Now the only thing that lingers
Is dust from grains of sand.
Things that are, are things that were;
Our plans didn’t go as planned.

I see your picture within this frame,
A smile rests upon your face.
I quietly and softly speak your name
To fill the dark and empty space.
I kiss the glass without concern or shame
And place it back upon the fireplace.

I’m heading home from this blue saunter
But I don’t know where to start.
I’m trying so hard to be stronger
But I’m still falling apart.
Though I can’t hold you any longer,
I’ll always hold your heart.
