#350 A Formal Farewell Poem by Jimmie Arrington

#350 A Formal Farewell

There’s a hush upon the kingdom,
A stillness within every mind.
Silent lips are dry and numb,
All eyes are glazed and blind.

Preparations are being made,
A formal farewell’s at hand.
The body has been gently laid
In a boat docked on the sand.

Mourners come from far and wide
To pay their last respects.
The sun sets on the river side
Where the multitude collects.

Dusk has arrived, the time has come,
The boat is pushed from the coast.
Ears are deaf, mouths are dumb
As flaming arrows soar like a ghost.

The blazing boat drifts off to sea
And the pipes begin to sing.
Tears flow uncontrollably
And say farewell to our beloved King.
