.5. Washing Up Poem by David Threadgold

.5. Washing Up

A pile of dirty dishes
On the worktop by the sink
Await hot soapy water
For a wash up soon I think

I’ll do it in the morning?
Or as soon as I’ve had tea
Maybe leave them soaking
Not sure I’ll wait and see

Teatime’s nearly over
More dishes on the pile
I try to motivate myself
But think I’ll wait awhile

By suppertime I’m tiring
A fork drops on the floor
A cuppa and a slice of toast
Gives dirty dishes more

Turned out the lights and off to bed
Could Dreams turn into wishes?
I wish that when the morning comes
For no more dirty dishes
