50 Years Later Poem by Damien Carroll

50 Years Later

Where is she, I can't see her.
Sorry, who are you looking for?
My friend, Annie Freeman
I think she means Anne Sullivan
Yes, that's right, Anne Sullivan

Ah Anne, yes she's right there.

She turned and there she was
Her old friend of many years
Sitting in a wheelchair.
Slowly she made her way over
and
They caught each other's hands
Lots of great to see you
But more importantly
Their hands stayed in place
Never moving from the embrace
Who was holding up who, I wondered

Now sitting face to face
It was remember this
Oh and remember that day
And of course
Sorry Anne, she's been dead a long time
Oh really. Wasn't she beautiful?
Absolutely gorgeous.
You were gorgeous too
We were all gorgeous back then

I'll never walk again, you know
They're going to get my house ready
Could be here a few more weeks

Then it was time
Time to go
Time to say goodbye
Time to unfold the embrace
Time for thank you for calling
Time for I'll drop out again soon

And
As they said goodbye
Time for very very misty eyes.
