.6. D.I.Y. Shoreline

Smooth pebbles on the sandy beach
Where breakers wash ashore
Taking some from where they lay
To smooth them off some more

Many came from miles away
Within surfs constant grinding
To lie in place of those removed
Transferred though never minding

Seaweeds try to put down roots
Between the pebbles gaps
The next large wave to come along
Makes sure the seaweed snaps

Some float around like carpets
Like thick grass on a raft
While local folk make lava bread
An ancient seaweed craft

Sea otters collect up pebbles
On the weed they lay to rest
With pebbles cracking mussel shells
They eat the very best

A never ending changing place
From constant years of movement
Of picking up and putting down
Each wave a new improvement
