A Blind Eye Poem by Lucas Pate

A Blind Eye

We have a crisis on our hands.
The blue skies disappear.
Everyone has turned a blind eye.
Apparently the world is dead to me.
A world so gray.
I am not different,
I am unique.
Treated like a freak,
But you would understand if you would only let me speak.
I did not choose to be this way.
The world did when they judged me.
Turned my calms seas,
To a raging storm.
If it wasn't for this heart,
This soul,
I'd be dragged to the bottom of the ocean.
Words of everyone,
Weighing me down.
I know there is nothing wrong with me.
A constant hope,
Keeps me afloat.
A hope for better days,
When people think before they act.
I am no freak,
I am me.
No one can change that.
Quit trying to alter my life to meet your standards.
Standards aren't real.
A word of advise,
to any who hides who they really are.
Let go,
Be free.
Be who you are.
One cannot be critiqued,
For definitions or normal ain't real.
Live life the way you want it to be.

Someone who is who they truly are,
Or a person who hides themselves to meet some social definition or normal?
