A Blobfish Says, 'Ask How Your Fish Were Caught' Poem by Stephen Katona

A Blobfish Says, 'Ask How Your Fish Were Caught'

Rating: 3.5

Onto a plate was hurled,
The ugliest animal in the world.
A strange looking blob,
Let out a little sob,
And said, 'Please do not jeer,
At how I appear.
I'm an odd looking fishy,
All soft and squishy.
My head may look fat,
But you'd be squashed flat,
In my habitat,
At the bottom of the sea,
Where I'd love to be.
I'm really rather rare,
So please have a care.
The ugly animal preservation society,
Has given me some notoriety.
Now I'd like to be heard,
So listen to my words.'

'There is an unseen slaughter,
Deep in the water.
There are a million unknown species,
As valuable as forests of trees.
Boats pull giant nets,
With terrible effects.
Along the bottom they trawl,
Catching many fish too small,
You can't even eat me,
So why take me from the sea.
They destroy tons of coral,
Now that's quite immoral.
It is my belief,
Everyone can protect a reef.
When your fish are bought,
Just ask how they were caught.'
