A Bridge Poem by Richard Hinz

A Bridge

I built a bridge
Out of flesh and bone
But when I got over
No one was home

I built a bridge
Out of longing and desire
But when I got over
I was so tired

I built a bridge
out of dreams and magic
But when I got over
My mind was erratic

I built a bridge
Out of a will to live
And when I got over
I wanted to die

So I built a bridge
To simply cross over
And when I got over
I stopped building bridges

Now I build towers
Into the sky
They keep going up
Forever higher
