A Brief Supremacy (Free Verse) Poem by Christie Maker

A Brief Supremacy (Free Verse)

Why does this unwelcome feeling
force itself on my notice.
Tearing at my bones
Tearing at my skin
Tearing at my throat
Causing every once a while, my heart to pound
A beat too fast.
Beating...In...Out...In In In
Hand entangles, wrapping, tightening
around my heart.
Slowly, firmly wringing all unseen moisture
Contained beneath the skin
Reaching out - stretching - flattening itself over
Every facet of my body.
A complete reign of tyranny
Gathering damp heavy clouds
Forcing their ascension
No escape, no release but through the eyes.
One dropp released first - then suddenly
Heart - wrung harder - skip another beat
And unawares
water - raindrops - falling
running, scurrying, tumbling
through my eyes, down my face.
Bursting at the sudden touch
of the hand reaching up to wipe them away
To rid myself entirely completely
of these repulsive raindrops.
Falling heavily - slams against the ground
Cringing, detesting these inexplainable,
wretched, merciless drops
being wrenched from unknown extremities.
Dark clouds and thunder
Of hands sudden brief reign
Until supplies run dry
And sets in the calm eye of the storm
Feeling of Emptiness.
