A Broken Love Poem Poem by Too Many Words

A Broken Love Poem

Rating: 5.0

Kissing in the rain is not romantic.
But kissing when it's raining outside
While we are safe inside and listening to
The drumbeats of thunder and pretending the
Lightning is fireworks exploding beneath
The darkness of our eyelids
Is quite close to perfection.

Wiping away my tears does nothing.
I would rather you let them fall
Or hold me close and later see
The stains of my sorrow on your shirt.
Besides, the more tears we brush
From my cheeks, the more tears
Will escape from my eyes.

I can never remember to breathe
When you kiss me under the
Weak, warm shadows of the apple tree.
It is as if the scent of your breath
And the mellow smell of apple blossoms
Pull me into a new world and give me
New lungs that require no air.

If I wake up in the middle of the night
After tossing, turning, and whimpering -
Do not hold me. Do not assure me that
"It's okay. It was just a dream."
Because it never is. How many times
Do I wake screaming without words
About memories I never recall?

All I will ever need, is for you
To love me like you've never
Loved anyone else - though I know
That you have, and I have, too.
All I will ever need, from here on out,
Is you to be there for me, to stick by me,
Even after anyone else would have gone.
