A Caged Freedom Poem by Kimberly Hope

A Caged Freedom

I wasn't born in a cage,
so why are you forcing me to live like I belong in one?
I have been trained not to speak,
not to ask, yell, or mourn,
otherwise their will be consequences:
consequences that force me to beg for mercy,
scream in my own honor,
and cry on a lonely, starless night.
No more shall I mourn or cry.
I shall escape this terror of mine,
and live my life as I please, freely.
Free like a butterfly I will be.
I will bloom like a beautiful red rose.
When it is time for the world to know who I am,
I shall allow a bee to spread my pollen;
showing me to the world filled with opportunities.
I am blooming like a water Lilly,
one that sparkles with the light of the moon upon it!
...I Am Free...
