A Cancer Patient's Prayer To Their Loved Ones Poem by Bianca Haw

A Cancer Patient's Prayer To Their Loved Ones

I didn't choose to shave my hair,
I lost it.
I didn't choose to be so weak that I couldn't play,
I literally couldn't move.
I didn't choose to feel so depressed and negative,
it comes with my condition.
I didn't choose to give up so that you would feel that I was leaving,
I just didn't know how to go on.

But I did see each of your smiles,
I heard each prayer in my name
and felt your hope and sadness,
your faith and love in my heart.

I may not have chosen to have you in my life,
I may not have thought that I needed you...
He knew long before I did
and so He placed you into my life.
So though I may have no hair,
feel weak most of the time and in the other times, exhausted.
I have you in my life
And I thank God each day.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I wrote this poem to all of the people that I know in my life who have fought cancer. I've seen my fair share of what cancer does to a loved one, their lives and the lives of their loved ones, and at the same time, I've seen them hurt more for their loved ones than themselves and fight for others rather than themselves. So it just seemed appropriate to put down in words what I see my friends go through...
