A Candle Poem by Gautam Sen

A Candle

Think of a feeble flame that flickers while it burns.
With glowing hope of golden hue it never turns
to put you ever in glooms of the starkest dark,
for you it puts forth a vision of life's hallmark.

It enlightens with rays for those who are forlorn;
to enliven the soul, just make its light your own.
All the darkness of gloom does never dare to touch;
feel its good warmth that leaves all shadows in the lurch.

It sheds its tiring tears night long as it smolders,
flicker of flame wanes out, molten wax gets colder.
As the night passes by, your worries get lighter –
glooms gone in candle's light, leave your face to glitter.

Time then comes when its flickering comes to an end,
waning throughout the night, for you message it sends -
'Oh, my dear friend! Did my duty lessen your pain?
From the rising sun henceforth, you should learn to reign! '
