Augosto dos Anjos

A Caridade

No universo a caridade
Em contraste ao vicio infando
É como um astro brilhando
Sobre a dor da humanidade!

Nos mais sombrios horrores
Por entre a mágoa nefasta
A caridade se arrasta
Toda coberta de flores!

Semeadora de carinhos
Ela abre todas as portas
E no horror das horas mortas
Vem beijar os pobrezinhos.

Torna as tormentas mais calmas
Ouve o soluço do mundo
E dentro do amor profundo
Abrange todas as almas.

O céu de estrelas se veste
Em fluidos de misticismo
Vibra no nosso organismo
Um sentimento celeste.

A alegria mais acesa
Nossas cabeças invade...
Glória, pois, á Caridade
No seio da Natureza!

Estribilho
Cantemos todos os anos
Na festa da Caridade
A solidariedade
Dos sentimentos humanos.

We are as clouds that veil the midnight moon;
How restlessly they speed, and gleam, and quiver,
Streaking the darkness radiantly!--yet soon
