A Chain To My Heart Poem by Paula Glynn

A Chain To My Heart

Rating: 5.0

This chain weighs heavy on my heart,
I just cannot lie anymore,
I am sick and tired of lying.
I want my freedom, you deserve the best,
You need to find someone else to love you.

My heart is broken and bleeding,
Seeing you cry like this,
And I know you're hurting:
I'm hurting, too, but we need different things,
We need to find someone else to nurture.

I am still your friend, but just a friend,
I can't say we'll ever be more than that.
I thought we were soulmates,
But we have both changed,
Now I've got to go, I'm running low on credit.

I can't telephone you tomorrow,
I can't be your best friend,
Happiness is something no one should pretend.
And you will always have a special place in my heart,
But we are better off apart.

Talk to me: tell me the truth,
We just don't need each other anymore.
Soon another will belong to your heart,
And these memories will fade away,
Memories that will depart,
And leave you to a story of your own heart.
