A Child Poem by Raniyal Niyada

A Child

'Its leap year', they say
'what is a leap year', i ask.
they look at me with a frown and asked in disbelief
'Don't you know what a leap year is? '
I shook my head in ignorance.
'its the 29 of Feb,
the day comes only once in every 4 years...'
'Once in four year? ? ' I expressed my shock
Nodding their head, they moved on...
Scratching my head, i looked at the sky...
Leap year.... Once in four years....
'Is my dad a leap year too? '
My question made them agog...
'He comes home once in four Years' i explained...
They looked at my mom and nodded...
I found my mom's eyes wet...
'I don't like leap year' I declared,
'for my mom don't seem to like either...'

LEAP YEAR, , , , this year should look before it leaps: (, , it hurts the child and mother, , , the poem has a punch, , but there is such an overtone of pathos.. a very sensitive glimpse at calender and its phonomena.. thanx.. the title of teh poem can also be LEAP YEAR, , ,
