A Corinthian Prayer Poem by Wakefield Mahon

A Corinthian Prayer

(From I Corinthians 13)

Lord, teach me to be wise in love
Patient, kind and true
Let me not be envious
But boast in only You
Strip away from me my pride
Help me be polite
Keep me from each selfish thought
That all may see Your light
Come and soothe my angry soul
Teach me to forget
The wounds that they inflict on me
And each trespass or debt
Teach me trust and hope
That I may call You Friend
Help me to endure all things
Until I reach life's end
