A Cracker In New Year Poem by Alvin Jenner

A Cracker In New Year

I had to close me eyes
I had to close my ears
'don don dadon' Shouted to crackers
They were on fire
They were helpless
No one to save them from burning

An auspicious time has arrived
A Sinhala new year arrived
I hear Crackers burning
Thousands of Cracker lives lost
Thousands burst to death
at a single moment, a split second

I hear them cry
They are helpless
I can do nothing for them
I make up my mind
They are not living
Just objects for mans fun
