A Day In The Life Of a Bud On A Reincarnated Marijuana Plant

Note: The following transcript is taken from a discarded reel of Memorex found in a box containing the reel to reel original of 'White Bird' by It's A Beautiful Day and those individuals who were there have long since moved on...except for the redhead...she's still holding me upright.

The leaves of the tall plant growing in the window facing the eastern morning sun
Were a light purple with red veins instead of the usual dark green in color
And the tall thick hairy buds that protruded from it were white with resins
It smelled like a spruce tree and was sticky with a clear coating of THC
John the carpenter had been pinching the buds off one by one all night long
And placing them in Mason jars for safe keeping and their own protection
Everyone else was stoned to the gills and the party was just winding down
As the last topless dancer collapsed on the floor next to David Bowie’s China Girl
Me, I had a bottle of Jack Daniels between my ears and a shot glass of bourbon
Pressed to my lips along with two blondes and a redhead holding me upright
It was six in the morning and nobody had been keeping proper time until then
When the cops busted in and decided they had seen and heard enough
Of someone else’s wiretapped conversations
Mistakenly recorded for posterity from three doors down and to the left
I remember the look on Sandy’s face when the one skinny dude with a badge
Commented on Sandy’s braided ponytail and how he looked like Willie Nelson
Sandy laughed and started singing like Loretta Lynn on nitrous oxide
The cop wasn’t entertained and began reading Loretta her Miranda rights
Which he had been made to memorize in forth grade along with three poems
By Robert Frost and the first two paragraphs of the Gettysburg Address
One of the blondes that had been holding me upright got up to take a leak
Leaving me slightly listing to my portside and taking on another glass of bourbon
Those were the days as Marianne Faithful said….
Those were the days that pass in front of my eyes when now many years later
I’m closer to my end…
And I wonder even now as I sit here sober
Gazing at a plant much like the one in the window that day of the raid
How horrible it would be to have to live this life all over
Again and again…until we get it right

That final line is the killer (in best possible way) on one of the most provoking pieces of yours I have read. t x
