A Difficult Time/For An Old Man In Decline Poem by Shalom Freedman

A Difficult Time/For An Old Man In Decline

Instead of September entering as end of August
September entering as intensifying August heat
Discomfort and unpleasantness are the promise
Of the next two weeks-

Global warming as cosmic vengeance
A world in decline and deterioration
The promise for future generations
Of life worse than it is now -

And with it the coronavirus
The political disorder
The security threats
The economy in decline
A world of problems I have no power
To do anything about-

A difficult time
For an old man in decline
