A Disgruntled Citizen Poem by Mustafa Marconi

A Disgruntled Citizen

You created me
You made me what I am
It’s funny to see you now
Taking a step back
Disowning any and all responsibilities
Blaming the cattle
For the brand you burnt into his flesh
Through fear and intimidation
You oppressed and terrorized
And trained the savages
To never spare the rod
…To your ancestor
As well as to many of you today
We are not human
We are the focus of all that is wrong
All that is ailing America
At only 12% of the total population
We account for 44% of those incarcerated
And almost 18% of the unemployed
With the roads to prosperity
Strategically weakened
By the immense burdens
Of mis-education, ignorance, apathy
And our undying quest for all that glitters
In this me first society
Where money skirts the rules
And progress is paid for
By the sweat of the poor;
Yes you created me
My need to possess
All of the material fruits of freedom
My need to be recognized
No matter how unqualified
How uneducated, or how unprepared
My need to feel like a human being
To not be subjected to racial profiling
Everywhere I go
How many times can I conveniently
Fit the description
How many times can I be targeted,
Humiliated, and subjected to ridicule and scorn
By those appointed to protect me

How many times can we be publicly lynched?
While our murderers walk away unscathed
And our Government remains unwilling to protect us
You speak of terrorism overseas
While we continue to endure all sorts of terrorism
Right here at home
To your ancestors
As well as to many of you today
We are still 3/5 of a human being
A group of 22 million savages
To be disburse into your penal institutions,
Your unskilled labor pool,
And eager trainees
Enthusiastically willing to distribute and sell
Your very lucrative products
Guns, Drugs, and your racist stereotypes and propaganda
You created me
A disgruntled citizen ready to pounce
Trying with all the strength that I can muster
To open minds shackled by political correctness
And compliance
To wake up the spirits of Denmark Vessey
Gabriel Prosser and Nat Turner
And wage war against the forces
That mentally, spiritually, and economically
Enslaves us
As our Government remains suspiciously unwilling
To properly, and passionately defend us
