A Dream Within A Nightmare Poem by Taya Martinez

A Dream Within A Nightmare

Rating: 5.0

As I lay upon this bed of rusty nails
Eyes wired shut
Mind crystallized with the presumption inevitable solitude
The pressure never ceases to gnaw at scraps of sanity that lie remnant
The weather is calm yet painfully constant
The sky is a beautiful deep red
And the earth covered in coarse sand
With the occasional scatter of ashes and burnt twigs
It hurts to breathe
Yet the throbbing seems to substitute for the enduring absence
Morbid masses invade all cavities and leisurely conquer each grave authorising
Malign lumps within the corridors to gradually suck the air from within
Leaving only a desolate echo
That serenades pining subconscious soles to walk the eternal mile
