A Fading Photograph Poem by Fathimath Farha

A Fading Photograph

Your words,
They still ring in my head,
Once so very often, they bring me back,
To a time I wish returned.

I have filled,
Pages and pages of my memory,
With your name,
Doodled across, up, down and all over,
Wishing that perhaps your name,
Would bring you back, to me.

No, because you are now nothing,
But a fading photograph.
A photograph of one time,
When smiles were a-plenty,
And love ran wild.

You are now a burst of joy,
A moment in time,
Captured, in a flash,
To last forever a memory,
That would bring a smile to my lips,
A memory that would bring tears to my eyes,
Each and everytime I look back.

I miss you even now,
Thought I'd get over it with,
The sands of time slowly,
Running over your name,
Erasing you gradually.

But no, oh no,
Your name remains ingrained,
Embedded into my very existence.
You're everything that I want,
You're everything I need.
I wish I held on,
When I still had you.

I closed my eyes,
Turned my back on you,
It broke your heart,
It shattered mine.
And now, I sit and cry,
Mourning the loss of the only,
Love of my life.

I'm guessing you've moved on,
Found that one true angel of your dreams,
Found that happiness I failed to give,
Found that true love, that I found in you.

Why does this foolish heart of mine,
Still beat for someone, it once,
Carelessly abandoned?
Why does it kill me when I,
Think of you with another?
Why do I still wish,
That we could love again?
Why?

You're just a fading photograph now,
A picture of bliss,
Captured once then forever lost.
