A Fair Go Is All Poem by Francis Duggan

A Fair Go Is All

A fair go is all one can ask for but people in jail serving time
For speaking out against their Government free speech should be a right not a crime
The rights of the individual are trampled on in the guise of what's good for the State
You show me a fair minded leader and their name I will celebrate,
Though humans have made giant steps in science and technology so little else we have to show
People now have less right it seems to me than they had a century ago
Resistance fighters picked up in war zones are tried as enemy combatants whatever happened to 'Prisoners of war'
And put on planes and flown to serve long jail terms from their Homeland in distances far,
In the guise of National security the rights of the individual are trampled on
The fair go for all many dream of forever is buried and gone
The so called freedom loving Governments on human rights even seem weak
We live in an age of fear mongering where we must choose the words we speak,
And yet a fair go is all one can ask for but to the privileged that only apply
And it does not apply to the masses the people such as you and I.
