A Father I Don'T Know Poem by Lone Dog

A Father I Don'T Know

Rating: 4.5

I have a father whom I do not know.
He left our family many years ago.
I often wonder why he went away.
Oh, how my life has changed since that dark day!

At Ford's main gate, I waited in the street,
Rewarded, when he came, by ice cream treat.
Remember how we used to tie his shoes
Together while he read the evening news?

And how he used to sit upon my bed
And sing a song till sleep crept o'er my head?
I thought he really loved us in those days.
I really didn't know him and his ways.

In growing youth, we lacked his loving touch.
He didn't know we needed him so much.
Today, I'll turn the age of forty-five
Not knowing if he knows that I'm alive.

Yes, I've a father whom I do not know.
He left our family many years ago.
I often wonder why he went away.
Oh, how my life has changed since that dark day!

Oddly enough, I recently made a poem utilizing this exact structure. Very flowing and telling of a personal situation that is unfortunately familiar to many. Excellent work.
