A Glimpse Inside Poem by Jo Lynn Ehnes

A Glimpse Inside

Rating: 4.5

The beauty of her azure eyes,
Still hides a lonely girl inside.
She'll let you see through her disguise
And show you all the tears she's cried.

It started when a tiny child,
This darkness that engulfs her soul,
The pictures where she never smiled
Showed melancholy had control.

A sad and frightened little girl
Whose eyes would double up her sight,
Poor vision caused a dizzy whirl
And plunged her deep inside her plight.

A father whose compassion lacked
And moved them time and time again
He never cared how she'd react
Her pleas to him were made in vain.

She'd make a friend and soon they'd leave
Which caused the loneliness to grow.
The dark became her sole reprieve
The light was now her greatest foe.

Through years of adolescent strife
She hid within her self-built cave,
One day a man enriched her life
Her spirit he would surely save.

Yet that was not to be the case,
For eighteen years she felt his wrath.
One day the light she did embrace,
Which helped her see a better path.

She freed herself from his strong hold
And started out her life anew,
Yet still her heart is bitter cold,
Awaiting warmth from love that's true.

A glimpse inside her soul I've shown
So you can understand her pain,
Without this you'd have never known
The depth her writing will contain.

Depth indeed my metric friend. Even if I never read this poem, I think your passion and personal plight have found there way to the readers minds and hearts. This is the fuel that feeds the fire. -Robert
