A Halloween Dream Poem by Joseph T. Renaldi

A Halloween Dream

Rating: 5.0

How many things are envisioned in a dream?
As you grow older you'll always recall
All the chills, thrills and pranks of Halloween,
Especially the horrifying and phantom tales
That now are a part of an annual dream.
The haunted house for the lightheartedness to enter,
Ghastly figures in weird costumes greet you there,
Psychedelic lights overwhelm the inside of the house
While creepy sounds create an eerie feeling of terror.
Bats fluttered nervously in the crisp, night air
While coal, black cats with green eyes passed by,
Grotesque goblins were lurking in the shadows of night
As witches on broomsticks were preparing for flight.
An owl screeching redundantly in a nearby tree,
Dogs howling vehemently at the moon in the sky,
Cats hissing at the lit, carved pumpkins' funny faces,
Pranksters prowling all the neighborhoods near by,
Awaiting to startle people in their comfortable homes
By tapping on windows or pelting them with corn,
Soaping automobiles with the least amount of remorse,
Prepared to perform mischevious acts until morn,
While children with masked faces and unique attire
Go trick and treating to every neighborhood door,
Anxious to perform a rewarding and acceptable gesture,
And hoping they can fill their bag with candy galore
To take home to count each piece and variety,
Just as excited children had done many years before.
