A Happy Surprise Poem by David Harris

A Happy Surprise

Rating: 5.0

It has been a funny week
where the past has caught up with me again,
not in a nasty way.
But the meeting of old acquaintances,
peoples I have not seen in years.

First it was a face I recognised
who turned out to be someone
I knew in passing thirty years ago.
Putting a name in Social Media
I reconnected with a cousin after thirteen years.

In both cases we have
a lot of catching up to do
from the summer of our youth
of carefree days of no restrain.

We have all moved on
through the years
sometimes clouded with sorrow and pain.
But now looking forward to
rekindling old sparks again.

They say the future is
not ours to know,
sometimes it is better that way
so that whatever is around the corner
can sometimes come as a happy surprise.
