A Haven Poem by Elia Michael

A Haven

A haven lush and green
Amid the dusty dry fields
With shade from summer sun
A rustic peaceful scene

The oleanders' pink
And cheery bright flowers
Are waving in the breeze
Perhaps to me, I think

The citrus trees bear fruit
Suspended globes in mid air
They tempt with such a scent
And vibrant hue to boot

The hens are running wild
The goats do pause and stare
The rabbits chew their leaves
In manner meek and mild

The pigeons fly up high
The kittens run away
A man with greyish hair
Is working hard nearby

He stops and welcomes me
We knew each other from
A long, long ago time
When we were so carefree

He brews a drink for two
We sit and sip and talk
And laugh at this and that
Below a dome of blue
