A Hot Summers Day Poem by David Harris

A Hot Summers Day

The murmur of the waves
as they rush up and down
along the sandy shore,
the hawkish screeches of the seagulls
as they circle in the sky
looking for something to eat.
A typical day at the seaside
during a long warm summer
with people resting in deckchairs
along the shore and striped coloured
windbreaks scattered here and there.
Children shouting with ice-cream cones in hand
as they run away from the water's edge
each time it invades the shore.
Cameras capture moments,
stolen segments in time
to be treasured forever
as the years roll away
of a day by the seaside
on a hot summers day.
