A Life Poem by Kevin Duan

A Life

You start out in your mother's womb
Knowing nothing
You come out an infant mewling and puking
Nursed to life by those who care
You then become the young student
Seeking fun and loathing to go to school
Then the young man
Seeking education, love, and success
Then to the woeful lover
Knowing of the chance of rejection
Trying to please the person you love
Then the grown man
Mature, experienced
Knowing what the world has to offer and taking it
Gratified for the help the has received
Thanking all those who support him
Finally the old man
Knowing that his time is near
Hoping to do one more thing before his death
Seeking, searching for anything
As his time draws closer, he gives up
Willing to surrender to death cold embrace
Darkness eloping him
Leaving only a shell of the man he used to be
Gone, gone, forever gone
