A Life Within A Life Poem by Jim Boone

A Life Within A Life

As this life unfolds
A simultaneous life
Travels hand-in-hand

Been here, done what (?)
Notions creep into new vistas
And make us wonder as we wander
A new path, on a new day.

A mind-splitting assault
On the body and mind
Of a new arrival can divide
A soul into twin personalities
On the road to Zion

To a degree of learning
And surviving the assaults
Of humanity on spiritual beings
One and the same
Different and connected
To a circle of life
Navigating interpretation mind-fields
Through an obstacle course
Of life-altering drugs,
bigotry, ignorance and fear
Of coming up short when
The Fates cut the cord of
A life within a life
One more time.

Amen.
