A Longing Poem by Nirode Ray

A Longing

Hollow inside
It sounds shallow
Rain drops
That noise must stop
I squeeze it, otherwise.

Birds fly
Over the sky
Who cares?
I can’t see anyway
But I pretend.

Everything dries empty
My heart still bleeds
I wait, and puff
Till you come
And slash it.
