A Loquat Tree's Wish Poem by Peter Elliott

A Loquat Tree's Wish

Just because I stand still in one place
And don't threaten to jump out at you
You think you can take me for granted.

Just because I have no tongue
And no lungs to create a sound
You regard me as mentally deficient.

Just because I have no eyes
And no ears to hear with
You view me as unconscious.

But I'm aware of your moods
And I'm curious about them.

And if I see you're upset
I want you to climb up into my boughs
And soothe you
With my gentle rocking
In the wind.
