A Lover And A Friend Poem by Jack Williams

A Lover And A Friend

Rating: 5.0

You never sought to hurt me
There was little you could do
Love ain’t for the deserving
There’s a fundamental truth

I know you had to leave me
I know we had to die
I can start recovering
Now I know the reason why

Perhaps you hoped somehow to spare me
That things would right themselves
Seems that we’re still learning daily
About the way we felt

I can’t wait ’til I forgive you
Until this madness ends
I don’t want my losses to be two
A lover and a friend
