A Lover's Remorse Poem by Zayne Venilos

A Lover's Remorse

A knock at the door
as a voice awoke
a woman at the door
was all that spoke

She whispered and she stammered
as she fumbled through words
'I feel bad that I left you
and I want you back,
but will you accept me
and take me back? '

A voice answered, muffled by the door
'I shall not take you, not anymore.
You see I waited, for cold, hard months
for you to come back, to realize what you lost'

The woman sobbed and fell to her knees
'I loved you, what more can I say?
Can you please tell me, give me some reprieve? '
Nothing but a croak was heard through the door

'I gave you my heart, so battered and worn
I gave you my love, so tattered and torn'
Then all was silent, except for her cries
As he opened the door and looked in her eyes

She looked up and met his gaze
'Hold me like you used too, love me like you did in those days'
The voice responded, as cold as ice
'You fooled me once, with your petty lies
You won't fool me twice, not on your life! '

I will say this poem is tremendously inspired by David Paget. His poems are amazing and I would like to thank him for the inspiration behind this poem.
