A Mermaid's Mountain Poem by Christopher Fladd

A Mermaid's Mountain

Of the painful mountain she totes;
Which honest words, to me, emote.
Carry on for faithful sunrises,
And live a Mer-queens life.
For you goes worst of beauties prizes
Losing life’s most subtle trust
To the worst of family sins: Lust.

You will truly love
Your sons and daughters
As for you, they will be fonder.
Trust the angels whom
Hold your shoulders,
When you set in slumber,
And forever remember, never forget.
To conquer pain
Is conquering death.

But to forever hold your breath and tongue,
The weight that holds your lip and lunge,
What kind of love your life has brought,
Is only witnessed, never taught.

And all the menacing thoughts you bear
May ring through time even more clear
There is time, time to heal.
If out in night, may come a fright,
Of Demon’s plaguing Angels flight.
A mermaid caught mid shark attack
To save your love
Whose knowledge lacks.
Existence of an unimagined known;
Life’s sweetest love of his condoned,
By one with which he made a home!

May this go to sea and not to stone.
For that is where mermaids lay
Their cares to rest for sake of play
If ever you’re lonely seek a bay.
Where men, fine sailors, drink and wait
For a maid to want the scent of bait
There yours are the powers to give and take.
Sad truth, to be forsaken by your make
Yet it’s still a wonder, what you’re to create.
