A Midnight Summons Poem by Aneesha Roy

A Midnight Summons

I glanced at the moon in the sky, one dull wintry night,
It smiled at me, amid gleaming, blinding light.
I was startled. I saw the face of my beloved
Floating somewhere near a star's head.
I beheld his warm, benign smile.
He beckoned me to him, for a while.
I rushed to the door, ran as fast as I could
And in the open frontyard, I eagerly stood,
My searching eyes scouring the sky,
Looking for his luminous halo,
But alas! He wasn't there anymore.
