A Mother's Heart Poem by Victoria Gauci

A Mother's Heart

When you were carried within my body,
Your life force was constant and strong,
I relished in your movement and stillness,
Your heartbeat was my rhythm and song,

You would giggle with the angels,
You would laugh within your sleep,
To have you in my arms to hold,
Tears of joy my heart would weep,

Your energy was filled with dance,
Your smile was filled with light,
The bluest big eyes for any boy,
You were the toughest little sprite,

As you grew I could see in you,
A unique and special quality,
I remembered back to your dancing,
In my womb and in front of me,

In the period of the teenage years,
A time where all of us get confused,
A thought came to mind to help you find,
The real person inside of you,

We went to buy the instrument,
Which you were meant to play,
And within a month or sooner,
I knew this would be the way,

I listened to the sounds you'd make,
Coming from that first guitar,
My heart can't describe it any other way,
It sent me to the stars,

A mother's heart is what holds the love,
Because her hands could just not do,
God created the mother's heart,
To keep it safe for you,

As right now you are a man,
Your life is straight ahead,
I hope that your heart will retain,
All the 'I LOVE YOUs' that I've said,

Life continues down the path,
That each are meant to travel,
Always know that your Mothers' Love,
Is a thread you can't unravel.
