A Person Of Courage Poem by Francis Duggan

A Person Of Courage

For years he has heard loud voices in his head
And often quite often he wishes he were dead
His prime years behind him his better days gone
But his will to live it keeps him keeping on.

For years he has struggled with his inner strife
His mental illness it has ruined his life
His happy days few and his problems are rife
He does not have children or a partner or wife.

The word gentleman to him surely does apply
A beautiful person he would not harm a fly
At his lust for life my wonder only does grow
A person of courage and one nice to know.

One cannot say of him life to him has been fair
For years he has battled his ghosts of despair
Yet he is a good person quite generous and kind
And better than him would be so hard to find.
